Infection Preventionist – West Virginia
Website Clutch Recruitment
300-bed hospital
A West Virginia hospital is seeking an Infection Preventionist to join a highly collaborative team within a large, service-rich acute care setting. This role offers exposure to a wide variety of Infection Prevention work across multiple clinical areas. There is consistently something new to evaluate, assess, and improve, making this a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys variety and wants to deepen their experience across many aspects of Infection Prevention.
The Infection Preventionist will be responsible for developing and implementing practices that improve patient care through infection surveillance and prevention activities. Surveillance work is driven by culture results, literature and community trends, and issues identified within the hospital, while prevention efforts focus on limiting the spread of organisms throughout the facility. This position reports to the IP Supervisor and is closely connected to regulatory and safety leaders within the department. The IP team is well integrated with nursing leadership and plays an active role in discussions around HAI prevention, risk assessments, and process improvement.
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree, with a master’s degree preferred, along with an active West Virginia RN license. Certification in Infection Control is required within 24 months of employment. Requirements include 2 to 5 years of nursing experience, with 5+ years preferred, as well as 1 to 2 years of Infection Prevention experience, with 2 to 5 years of related experience preferred. Any prior Infection Prevention experience would be viewed positively, making this a strong opportunity for someone continuing to build in the specialty.
This is a 300-bed facility with an average daily census around 350 and a broad clinical footprint that creates meaningful, hands-on Infection Prevention involvement throughout the organization. One of the hospital’s biggest strengths is its wide range of services and clinical settings, which gives the IP team strong visibility and impact. The organization is described as highly team-oriented, with departments regularly seeking Infection Prevention input on risk assessments, compliance, and process improvement. Strong partnerships with nursing leadership and close alignment with regulatory and safety functions further reinforce the importance of the role.
The position is located in a West Virginia community known for its low cost of living and strong overall quality of life. There are many outdoor recreation options both in town and within a short drive. The area offers strong private school options and positive local feedback on several of the larger public high schools. Neighborhoods close to the hospital have also been trending positively, making the location appealing both professionally and personally.
