Infection Preventionist
We’re looking for a registered nurse to fill the role of Infection Preventionist at Kootenai Health. In this role, you will report to the Director of Infection Prevention and work alongside three Infection Preventionists at the 330-bed community hospital.
A BSN and one year of previous Infection Prevention experience are required for this role at this regional medical referral center providing a comprehensive range of medical services to patients throughout the area.

Position Summary:
Works with Infection Prevention Manager and others to protect patients, providers, employees, visitors and others from risk of infection or disease transmission throughout Kootenai Health.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluates and implements a plan for mitigating infection prevention risks throughout the organization
- Serves as a resource to all Kootenai employees and providers regarding infection prevention standards and best practices
- Connects with organizations to promote health and safety across the region
- Assures organizational compliance with all regulatory and other relevant standards
- Collaborates with leadership to assure employee awareness and practice in accordance with infection prevention standards, policies and procedures
- Actively seeks opportunities to improve patient and employee safety
- Accurately submits required data to relevant agencies in a timely manner
- Utilizes critical thinking in all decision making
- Performs other related duties as assigned
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function
- Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned
Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of a nationally accredited Nursing program required.
- All non-BSN RN’s hired after 1/1/2015 at Kootenai Health are required to be enrolled in a baccalaureate (or higher) degree program in nursing upon hire, and show evidence of enrollment prior to their start date with a mandatory completion date based on date of hire:
- Hired prior to 8/31/2015 BSN is recommended but not required.
- Hired between 9/1/2015 and 12/31/2018 BSN completed by December 31, 2020.
- Hired after 1/1/2019 BSN completed within two years of hire.
- State of Idaho Registered Nurse OR licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the “multistate privilege to practice” compact with Idaho prior to start date.
- BLS Required
- Epidemiology and surveillance experience and Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred
- Varied experience in hospital as well as outpatient settings desirable
- Previous experience in an Infection Prevention role desirable
- Previous experience in quality monitoring, project leadership desirable
- Previous experience in PDCA process improvement activities desirable
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position
- Typical equipment used in a clinical job
- Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to stoop, crouch or bend
